San Vicente de la Barquera
San Vicente de la Barquera has one of the most picturesque landscapes of the Cantabrian coast, with its beaches, old town and the exceptional backdrop of the snowy mountains of the Picos de Europa.
The old town was declared a Cultural Heritage Site in 1987 due to its interesting selection of monuments, such as the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the castle and the remains of the town walls. The bridges are another typical feature of the town, such as the Puente de la Maza o Parral. It also has some magnificent beaches such as Fuentes, Primera de San Vicente, El Rosal, El Tostadero, Merón and Gerra, plus a stunning estuary with a mountain backdrop. Santillana del Mar
Santillana del Mar is one of the most historic and artistic in the whole of Spain. It is the main tourist focal point of Cantabria and one of the most visited and attractive in the region.
The Colegiata de Santa Juliana is one of the town's architectural treasures being the building most representative of Santillana and the crowning jewel of the Romanesque era in Cantabria.
Also well worth a visit is the Cueva de Altamira, which is known as the Sistine Chapel of rock art. This cave contains what are probably the most famous prehistoric paintings in the world.
The town of Santillana del Mar is a place of cultural significance, with many activities taking place throughout the year in different exhibition halls and museums.
